35mm Cuba Collection (Shot on Color and Black & White Kodak Film)

20 years ago, I was able to spend a summer abroad studying in Cuba, a rare opportunity for an American student. There are elements of life in Cuba that have changed little since the revolution of 1959, including of course, the classic American cars, masterfully tinkered with by crafty Cubans to seemingly run forever. They are a people that want and deserve more out of their country, to be lifted out of what is still a brutal regime. 1980 Olympus OM 10 35mm Camera in hand, I set out to capture the true spirit, struggle, and resilience of the Cuban people, shooting about 20 roles of film in the process.


All photos were captured using Kodak Portra Pro Color Film, Kodak Ektar Pro Color Film, and for Black & White shots, Kodak TRI-X Pro Film. For this collection, I started by rescanning original negatives, followed by a tedious, multi-layer remastering process that included utilizing AI tools for upscaling. 


This collection is comes as polished acrylic glass with pure-white matting, presented in a ready to hang classic gallery frame.

ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER

Portland, Oregon based photographer, Rick Sheinin, has spent most of his life, camera in hand, getting lost around the world, (64 countries and counting). However, Oregon will always be home.
